a nutshell FashBash put upmarket fashion bazaars in vogue. The first of its kind, FashBash on 6 May 2006 drew unprecedented interest from vendors, customers and the media. Covered in The Straits Times, Business Times, Today, Female, and I-S, the inaugural event drew more than 2,000 visitors. We held three great events in 2007 in April, August and December. For Q1 2008 though, we're taking a break to concentrate on our day jobs. At FashBash, designer-loving shopaholics get to decoct their hoard by selling items they no longer use or want must make room for their latest FW07 buys! while fashionistas can pick up authentic, new or good-as-new luxury goods at discounted prices. Seriously! Remember walking away with the brand new Prada heels for $120 last May, and the $5 Hermes scarves girls were fighting over in April? Yep, shoppers come knowing what to expect luxury goods at great prices. Very unlike other local flea markets where you might be hard pressed to sell your Miu Miu coffer bag (marked down to just $400, and they're asking for more discount?!) when other stalls are hawking 3 for $10 items. We also believe that local talent deserves no less support. That's why you see many a local fashion designer or jewellery designer participating in FashBash. It's a great platform for them to get word out to discerning local fashion-lovers that hey, they exist, they have great stuff, and the stuff is for sale. We're proud that FashBash has had strong support in terms of participation from local fashion labels like Baylene, Swirl, Tskye and Tan Tan, as well as jewellery brands like Black Ivory, Mea Culpa, Logo and Woon Hung. Vintage never goes out of style, and don't we know it! You'll also find fab vintage retailers like Granny's Day Out, Dustbunny Vintage and Que Sara at our bazaar. Bizarre? Heck no! Every fashionista worth her salt knows that you don't have to wait for fashion cycles to regurgitate trends, the way strong shoulder silhouettes a la the '80s are now stomping down the catwalks. Vintage is great for graphic prints, quirky baubles and authentic musty mothball scents!
the
fashbash empire We have more exciting fringe events in the pipeline. There's GAL (Girls At Large) and 5foot9 (shoes for gals US Size 9 and above), our fashion retail arm for plus-sized fashionistas. We'll soon have FashBoys (aka FashBash ForBoys), which is pretty self-explanatory. How could we continue to leave the guys out any longer? And then there's the renegade Wardrobe Raids, the very flea little sister of our FashBash mainstay bazaar. It's a means for label-loving shopaholics to clear out the non-designer stuff (eg MNG, Topshop, Chatuchak stuff etc etc that she cleverly mixes and matches with her Prada and Miu Miu and Dior...) from her wardrobe and still make a buck of it. Wardrobe Raids was something that we'd been saying we'd do like forever and we finally did one awesome Sunday on 7 Oct 2007! We stormed Powerhouse at St James Power Station with "Wardrobes of Mass Abduction", and it was chaos. 120+ little stalls, good golly gosh! We made new friends, made a few enemies when we fought with people over territory, snapped up great bargains, met crazy chicks selling Prada bags for $30, and sold stuff for $5 (or gave away stuff free!). We hope everyone who took part or came a-shopping had fun! Yes, even you, the ones who refused to stick to your allocated stall spaces! *heaping coals on your fiery heads* Sign
